Introduction to Latex Overleaf
On October 24, 2023, IEEE ComSoc Bahrain and the University of Bahrain jointly organized an online seminar titled “Introduction to LaTeX Overleaf.” Dr. Aysha Al-Sayed, an assistant professor from the University of Bahrain’s Computer Engineering Department and a board member of IEEE ComSoc Bahrain, delivered the seminar. The event aimed to introduce participants to LaTeX and Overleaf, emphasizing their usefulness in document typesetting. LaTeX is a widely used typesetting system for academic and scientific document preparation, enabling users to create high-quality papers, reports, and presentations with precision and consistency. Overleaf is an online collaborative platform that simplifies the use of LaTeX. During the seminar, attendees learned the basics of LaTeX syntax, document structure, and how to create sections, tables, equations, figures, and references. The seminar also highlighted the benefits of using LaTeX and Overleaf, including improved document appearance, readability, and the collaborative features of Overleaf. By the end of the seminar, participants gained a comprehensive understanding of LaTeX and Overleaf, empowering them to efficiently create professional-looking documents for their academic and professional endeavors.

The Power of ChatGPT: What a Faculty Need to Know!
Prof. Mohab Mangoud, Vice Chair of IEEE ComSoc Bahrain Chapter, and Faculty of EEE Department presented the power of ChatGPT to University of Bahrain Faculty. During the seminar, he touched on what ChatGPT essentially is, transformers, and Large Language Models. He also provided UOB Guests and Staff, with best practices for using ChatGPT in education and applications of using ChatGPT for teaching. Prof. Mohab also presented the different challenges and opportunities of ChatGPT in education such as bias in training data and what that implies, misinformation, and potential risk for plagarism and how to overcome these risks.

IEEE ComSoc Awareness Event at University of Bahrain
Dr Reham, Secretary, IEEE ComSoc Bahrain Chapter in IEEE ComSoc Awareness Day
The IEEE ComSoc Bahrain Chapter has participated in the Professional Societies Awareness Day that was organized by University of Bahrain, IT College on Monday, 13th March. Dr. Reham Almesaeed, IEEE ComSoc Bahrain Secretary, represented the Chapter in the event. Members of the ComSoc Student Branch (Ali Redha, Farah Alkhunaizi, and Maryam Hamad) have also contributed to the event in raising awareness among IT students. Dr. Reham has made a presentation on the Chapter key facts, goals and recent activities. Around 70 students attended the event, where many showed interests in joining the IEEE Communication Society and have been guided by Student Branch representatives on how to join the Society.

Bahrain IoT and AI Challenge 2022
Bahrain IoT & AI Challenge Closing Ceremony
The Bahrain IoT and AI Challenge was organized by the University of Bahrain’s College of Engineering as part of a larger regional competition involving 12 Arab countries. The challenge aimed to build national and regional capacity in the areas of Internet of Things and Artificial Intelligence, and encourage innovation and entrepreneurship among young people. The first edition saw the participation of 17 graduation projects and 12 startups, who underwent a training program before showcasing their ideas to a judging team. The winners qualified for the next phase of the competition and IEEE Communication Society Bahrain Chapter played a role as a technical partner, with some of its members serving as project managers and judges. The chapter was also awarded for its contribution to the challenge during the closing ceremony. Read more below in the Global Communications Newsletter page 3:

The 2nd IEEE Middle East and North Africa Communications Conference (IEEE MENACOMM’19) was held on 19-21 November 2019 at The Diplomat Radisson Blu hotel in Manama, Kingdom of Bahrain. The conference was organized and sponsored by IEEE Communications Society Bahrain Chapter (ComSoc Bahrain chapter), University of Bahrain (UoB) and Bahrain Society of Engineers (BSE). IEEE MENACOMM’19 is technically co-sponsored by IEEE ComSoc chapters consortium (Bahrain, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, and Tunisia) in addition to three newly joined ComSoc chapters (Iraq, and Morocco and Oman). The Technical Program Committee (TPC) of the Conference accepted 61 papers, out of 164 paper submissions of scientific papers, yielding an acceptance rate of 37%. The conference papers were distributed and presented in 12 technical sessions. In addition to a “special video and live streaming interactive session”, that was an added facility provided for those who couldn’t attend to present their work. All papers will be indexed by IEEEXplore. The conference attracted more than 200 scientists and researchers from 30 different countries around the world to discuss the latest advanced technologies in communications in the following three Tracks were: (1) Emerging Communications Technologies and Future Trends. (2) Physical Layer and Fundamentals. (3) Network, MAC and Cross layer Design.
