About the Speaker: Professor Baek-Young Choi, University of Missouri, Kansas City, United States of America, is a ComSoc Distinguished Lecturer and the Associate Editor-in-Chief of the IEEE Communications Magazine. She will discuss the advancements and future prospects of communication technologies in the context of AI-assisted network services over federated open networks in 5G and beyond.

Abstract:The architecture of the 5G network, and the anticipated 6G network, will predominantly be virtualized and rely on software functionalities. These virtualization trends extend from the core to the Radio Access Network (RAN) functionalities. The decoupling of software and hardware, open interfaces, containerization and virtualization, and the open source code principle provide ample opportunities for Al-assisted innovation over testbeds. In the talk, we examine an ongoing project where we develop a distributed federation platform that enables agile Al-assisted network service delivery over cross-sector open networks. We will explore the intricacies of open testbeds and their federation platform. Particularly, a network service use case over the federated networks will be discussed, showcasing how semantic network management is achieved using machine learning and generative Al techniques.
